4-Day Tambopata Jungle Tour from Lima | Amazon Rainforest Adventure Peru

Your journey begins with a pickup from your hotel or Lima airport, where our team will assist you and transfer you to your domestic flight bound for Puerto Maldonado, the gateway to the Amazon rainforest.

Upon arrival, you will be warmly welcomed by our local staff and transferred to the river dock. From here, you will board a motorized boat for a scenic 30-minute journey along the Madre de Dios River to reach the Amazon Garden Lodge, your exclusive stay in the heart of the jungle.

After check-in and a short rest, you will begin your first immersive experiences inside the Tambopata National Reserve.

Canopy Walk

A short 200-meter walk from the lodge leads you to a 35-meter-high canopy tower built around the majestic Lupuna tree, one of the Amazon’s most iconic giants.

From the top, enjoy panoramic jungle views and observe a variety of tropical bird species while your expert guide explains the rich biodiversity of the rainforest.

Ziplining Adventure

Continue with an adrenaline-filled ziplining experience. After safety instructions from your guide, you will glide across a 190-meter zipline through the jungle canopy, followed by a crossing of a 100-meter suspension bridge, before returning to the starting point.

Lunch & Relaxation

Return to the lodge to enjoy a traditional Amazon-style lunch, followed by time to relax in hammocks surrounded by the sounds of the rainforest.

Kayaking Experience

In the afternoon, take part in a guided kayaking adventure along the Madre de Dios River. Full safety equipment is provided, and a support boat will accompany the group at all times.

You will also have the opportunity to refresh yourself with a swim in the calm waters of the Amazon river.

Monkey Island Visit

Later, enjoy a short 15-minute boat ride to Monkey Island, home to several species including capuchin monkeys, black monkeys (Cebus apella), and white monkeys (Cebus albifrons).

With your guide, observe and learn about their natural behavior and interactions in the wild.

Sunset & Caiman Night Safari

Return to the Amazon Garden Lodge around 4:30 PM to witness a magical Amazon sunset.

After dinner time, embark on a night boat safari equipped with lights to spot caimans along the riverbanks, including white and dwarf caimans, whose glowing eyes make them visible in the dark.

By approximately 7:30 PM, return to the lodge for dinner and rest, surrounded by the sounds of the rainforest.

You will wake up to the natural sounds of the Amazon rainforest, followed by a freshly prepared Amazon-style breakfast at the Amazon Garden Lodge, including tropical fruits, eggs, pancakes, fried plantains, and freshly brewed Peruvian coffee.

At approximately 09:30 AM, you will board a boat and cross the river to reach the park control post, where visitor registration is completed by local authorities. From here, you will begin a 3-kilometer hike (around 1 hour) through the jungle toward Lake Sandoval, one of the most beautiful protected areas in the Tambopata National Reserve.

Along the trail, your guide will help you identify diverse flora and fauna, with chances to spot wildlife such as monkeys, tropical birds, and even giant river otters.

Upon arrival at Lake Sandoval, enjoy a well-deserved lunch surrounded by the rainforest. Afterward, you will explore the lake by traditional rowing canoe, gliding through calm waters in search of wildlife.

This area is home to species such as hoatzins, cormorants, anhingas, and occasionally the famous giant river otters known as the “river wolves.” After an immersive exploration of the lake ecosystem, you will return to the lodge.

In the evening around 06:30 PM, you will embark on a night jungle walk, where your guide will introduce you to the fascinating world of nocturnal Amazon wildlife, including insects, frogs, and other hidden creatures of the rainforest.

By approximately 07:30 PM, you will return to the Amazon Garden Lodge for dinner and a relaxing night surrounded by the sounds of the jungle.

You will wake up to a freshly prepared Amazon-style breakfast at the Amazon Garden Lodge, surrounded by the sounds of the rainforest. Around 08:00 AM, you will begin a guided hike to a nearby indigenous community, where you will gain an authentic insight into their traditional way of life.

During the visit, you will meet a local native family known for their ancestral customs, hunting traditions, and cultural heritage. You will learn about their daily practices, survival skills, and spiritual connection with the Amazon. They are also recognized for their handmade artwork, which will be available for purchase if you wish to support the community.

After the cultural visit, you will continue by boat to a nearby river area for a rustic fishing experience. Here, you may catch local species such as catfish, sardines, or piranhas, depending on the season.

You will then return to the Amazon Garden Lodge, where our chef will prepare your fresh catch using traditional Amazonian spices for lunch.

In the afternoon, enjoy free time to relax in the lodge, unwind in hammocks, or take a short guided jungle walk around the lodge surroundings, where your guide will point out medicinal plants, insects, and hidden wildlife often missed by the eye.

Later in the evening, a freshly prepared dinner will be served at the Amazon Garden Lodge, followed by a relaxing night surrounded by the natural sounds of the Amazon rainforest.

Your final day at the Amazon Garden Lodge begins early with a peaceful boat transfer through the rainforest to visit the famous Parrot Clay Lick (Collpa de Loros). Upon arrival, you will settle in and witness the incredible sunrise activity as flocks of parrots and parakeets gradually gather along the clay wall to feed on essential minerals.

This natural spectacle offers the chance to observe species such as blue-headed parrots, macaws, parakeets, and other vibrant Amazonian birds in their natural habitat. You will have approximately one hour to enjoy, film, and photograph this unforgettable wildlife experience surrounded by the sounds of the awakening jungle.

After returning to the Amazon Garden Lodge around 07:00 AM, you will enjoy your final Amazon breakfast before continuing the journey downstream.

On the way back to Puerto Maldonado, we will make a stop at Cachuela, a scenic area along the Madre de Dios River known for its calm waters and beautiful jungle views, offering one last chance to appreciate the Amazon landscape.

After this final stop, you will be transferred to our office in Puerto Maldonado. Depending on your flight schedule, you will then be taken to the airport for your return flight to Lima, marking the end of your unforgettable Tambopata adventure.
