Best Choquequirao trek 4 days

Discovered by a French explorer in the 18th century, the Choquequirao Trek (meaning “cradle of gold”) fascinated 19th century explorers, including Hiram Bingham, before he discovered Machu Picchu.

Magnificent and mysterious, this abandoned city bears many similarities to Machu Picchu, and there are many theories about its function. However, it was only recently that COPESCO (the official agency in charge of tourism in Peru) cleared some of the ruins and there is still much to discover on the Choquequirao Trek.

Choquequirao Trek is located in the cloud forest 1,150 meters (3,772 feet) above the Apurimac River, surrounded by a stunning landscape created by the Vilcabamba Mountains, offering all the comforts of trekking.

But due to its remote location, few tourists used to visit it. Fortunately, COPESCO is now also building a footbridge over the Apurimac River below the site, making it even more accessible. A challenging but amazing experience to hike deep into the Apurimac Canyon and reach the clouds.
